Being a huge mountain lover and a hiker, it would have been natural for me to try a via ferrata route. Well, not really… I had no plans, no desire, and I never thought I would ever venture on such a route. However, something in my subconscious urged me to accept the booking of such an activity when one of my friends presented me with the offer from Green Adventure.
One of the main reasons why I would never have imagined climbing a via ferrata route was, without a doubt, my fear of heights, a deep-rooted fear that I have had since childhood. This fear is usually triggered when I am in exposed areas, such as on mountain ridges, where the lack of a real safety "net" creates an intense feeling of vulnerability. In such situations, my imagination plays tricks, and the thought of possible dangers becomes overwhelming. However, I found that this fear can be managed quite effectively if I trust the equipment used and the safety measures, and the "Sunny Way" via ferrata route was the perfect example in this regard. The protective equipment, consisting of harnesses, carabiners and a sturdy helmet, gave me a feeling of absolute security, considerably reducing my anxiety about heights. Knowing that I was permanently anchored to the safety cable allowed me to gradually relax, control my emotions, and focus on the beauty of the route.
Thanks to this sense of mental comfort, I was able to face my fear and truly enjoy the adventure, discovering a new level of self-confidence. Climbing the spectacular route, I realized that I could overcome mental obstacles with the right support and transform an experience that, at first, seemed intimidating into an unforgettable memory, full of satisfaction and pride.
HOW DO YOU GET TO THE GREEN ADVENTURE CAMPING?
The adventure starts at Green Adventure Camping in Buzau County, GPS coordinates 45°31'28.80"N 26°27'11.84"E.
If you are coming from Bucharest, the most suitable route is Ploiesti - Patarlagele - Nehoiu - Varlaam - camping. After passing the village of Varlaam, there is no signal on the phone, so I recommend that you make sure you have the map loaded on your navigator before reaching this area. Also, after this village, the road we will follow is a forest road, unpaved, but in very good condition.
Once we arrive at the camping area, we will leave the car in the parking lot by the river, which is quite spacious, but if it rained recently, it may be a little difficult to access.
ABOUT THE VIA FERRATA "SUNNY WAY" ROUTE:
Required equipment: shoes with grippy soles (I wore hiking boots), elastic pants, or made of a flexible material that allows you to lift your leg, climbing gloves, pouch (for phone and other personal items). The rock on which the route is arranged is completely exposed to the sun, so I recommend that you don't forget your sunscreen. The rest of the protective equipment, mandatory for such routes, is provided by the organizer.
Best time to do this via ferrata: any day between June 1 and September 1.
This guided via ferrata tour was booked and paid a few days in advance, directly from the Green Adventure website. Shortly after purchasing, we were contacted by the organizers to confirm our attendance, the time we should arrive, and were given additional details about how our day of adventure would be.
We arrived a little bit earlier than the scheduled time, so we had some time to relax before everyone gathered. The campsite is located in the middle of nature, in the forest, in a very quiet area. Within the complex there is a bar, a few fixed glamping tents, relaxation areas and via ferrata trails.

The relaxation areas can be enjoyed by all the clients of the location, without having to be accommodated within the complex. Personally, I give a big plus to the organizers for arranging these places, which made our day more beautiful. You can choose to relax in hammocks, swings, or on mattresses.
Now that we've introduced you to the camping scene, let's move on to what is the subject of this article: the via ferrata route.
It's good to know that you can bring the whole family, including children, because there is a via ferrata route for them too.
Once everyone was gathered, they equipped us, explained how to use the equipment and what to expect from the route. Afterwards, we were divided into two groups of 5-6 people, and each group received a guide. The route, although not very long (it is only 130 meters), is quite complex and offers a little bit of everything. There are sections of metal pieces mounted in the rock, wire ladders tied to the wall, a pendulum, but also artificial sockets.
The most exciting part of the whole experience, without a doubt, is the spectacular descent, which is done on the zipline, a moment of pure adrenaline and memorable fun. The zipline is quite impressive both for its considerable length, approximately 300 meters, and for the speed it can reach, offering participants a feeling of freedom and adventure in the open air. Depending on the body weight of each person and the weather conditions, the descent speed can reach up to 70 km/h, which makes the whole experience thrilling and energizing.
WHERE ARE YOU ACCOMMODATING NEARBY?
If you want to enjoy the location for longer, there is the option to stay in the tents at the complex. The entire campsite can accommodate up to 48 people. Both two-person and four-person tents are available. Each tent has a mini terrace, with sun loungers and a table, and the bathroom is shared. For details and reservations, I recommend accessing the official website.
Another accommodation option that caught my attention and seemed interesting to me is OM Resort, listed on Booking. It has double or family rooms and is located in Gura Teghii. Each room has its own balcony, and the property is equipped with a restaurant, fitness room, sauna, parking and a private beach area on the river bank.
CONCLUSIONS ABOUT THE FIRST EXPERIENCE ON A VIA FERRATA
Choosing to do my first via ferrata with the professional and friendly team at Green Adventure was definitely a winning choice. The experience they provided helped me overcome my initial fears and discover how much I love these activities that combine adventure, nature and physical challenge in such a captivating way. The relaxed but well-organized atmosphere and their attentive guidance made me feel safe and confident throughout the entire experience, which contributed significantly to the joy I felt at the end.
This first adventure convinced me that such routes, which offer the perfect combination of adrenaline, spectacular landscapes and the satisfaction of pushing your limits, are exactly the kind of activity I would like to explore more often in the future. With such a positive experience under my belt, I am now much more open and excited to discover other via ferrata routes, whether in the country or elsewhere, knowing that each one will bring a new challenge and new unforgettable moments.
As for the experience with the organizers of this adventure, I can honestly say that it was far beyond my expectations, managing to transform the entire day into an unforgettable moment. From start to finish, the team proved to be extremely well-prepared, friendly and attentive to every detail, ensuring that everything went perfectly. We had moments of relaxation and good cheer, and the atmosphere created by the organizers was so pleasant that we had a great time, laughing out loud and enjoying every moment to the fullest.
This adventure will definitely remain one of my most beautiful memories, not only because of the spectacular landscapes and the unique route, but also because of the way the team knew how to make us feel at ease, combining safety with fun and professionalism with positive energy. So, if you have the opportunity to do this route, whether you are a beginner or looking for a new challenge, I recommend it wholeheartedly, without hesitation. It is an experience you will not regret and which will surely inspire you to come back for more such adventures.
